Suburban Skyview: A lone maple tree shows its early fall colors

To some people, watching leaves change color is a treasured seasonal event. Those able to see fall colors know it's a momentary display before Old Man Winter appears.

Some plan trips up north to catch an early glimpse of the autumn colors while others take a drive to their favorite spot in the country.

Every fall the Daily Herald photo staff captures the beauty and splendor of fall colors in the suburbs. This year, an early summer drought hit after varying spring temperatures. Producing and supporting their leaves became an issue for trees. Fortunately, we had a wet July and many trees saw growth.

I have my favorite spots to photograph fall colors. Leaves along the Fox River in East and West Dundee tend to change first. And trees along Route 31 in Algonquin never disappoint.

This year, I found a new area in Fox River Grove that was perfect to capture drone photos. One maple tree in particular caught my eye as I rounded a curve on Barberry Lane. It was one of those "wow, look at that one" moments.
