Science & Arts Academy appoints new head of school
The Science & Arts Academy (SAA) board of trustees has announced the appointment of Conrad Wildsmith as SAA's next head of school, beginning July 1, 2024. Conrad's appointment is the culmination of a nine-month search process that included voices from students, families, faculty, administration and the board of trustees.
Conrad brings a proven record in school leadership with 10 years of experience as a head of school in both international and traditional programs. Additionally, Conrad has served as an instructor of gifted students, has planned and implemented advanced curriculum for gifted students and has led professional development for teachers on differentiated instruction.
"I can't wait to partner with the SAA community in providing a challenging, nurturing and joyful learning environment that helps students understand and embrace their intellectual and emotional growth," he said.
Conrad began his teaching career after completing his undergraduate studies, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a BA in Education from St. Louis University. Conrad's passion for gifted education is a deeply personal mission that began when he discovered he was raising a gifted child. Search committee head and chair of the Science & Arts Academy board of trustees, Kirsten Bedway, expressed, "During Conrad's visit to SAA, his enthusiasm for our school's mission was palpable and noted by many members of the SAA community."
His desire to further educate himself led to his pursuit of a master's degree in gifted education from the University of Missouri.
"I am thrilled to become the next head of school at Science & Arts Academy," Conrad said. "I am eager to begin working on behalf of our gifted students and families, supported by like-minded people as passionate as myself about understanding our students' unique abilities and meeting their diverse needs."
Conrad first served as head of school at The French School in St. Louis, then brought Austin International School through a transition in leadership before taking on the head of school role at Bay Farm Montessori in Duxbury, Massachusetts, until 2023. Currently, Conrad is serving as Interim Head of School at the Lucy School in Frederick, Maryland, leading the charge transitioning the school to a not-for-profit status before he joins Science & Arts Academy in July 2024.
Edward Hollinger will end his term as interim head of school at the conclusion of the 2023-2024 school year after leading the school with great enthusiasm for our community and a passion for the school's mission to educate gifted children in an academically differentiated and enriched environment while recognizing the unique development of each child. Mr. Hollinger continues to advance SAA community engagement and cultivate an environment where gifted students thrive.
