GLASA to host wheelchair tennis tourney
Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association has announced the return of the Chicago Wheelchair Classic Tennis Tournament.
This national adaptive tennis tournament will take place Oct. 27-29 at Midtown Athletic Club's Bannockburn location. Building upon the success of the previous year, this year's tournament promises to deliver an inclusive experience for athletes, families, fans and community across three days of adaptive tennis events, including a USTA Level 3 tournament, a youth tennis clinic, an Up-Down match play and more.
"For GLASA, the Chicago Wheelchair Classic Tennis Tournament represents the culmination of dedication, inclusivity, and athletic prowess," said Geoff Kent, GLASA board member and wheelchair tennis athlete.
"As we partner with Midtown Athletic Club, we amplify our mission to showcase the remarkable abilities of these athletes and to inspire the broader community. This event is a celebration of human potential and the limitless possibilities that adaptive sports offer."
Midtown Athletic Club, renowned for its commitment to fostering inclusivity in a world-class health, fitness and racket club, is an ideal host for this national tournament. Located 45 miles north of Chicago, Midtown Athletic Club's state-of-the-art facility in Bannockburn aligns seamlessly with GLASA's mission to break down barriers and champion adaptive sports.
"The Chicago Wheelchair Classic Tennis Tournament holds a special place in the heart of adaptive sports enthusiasts, and we are excited to elevate the event this year by hosting the tournament at Midtown Athletic Club for the first time," said Dr. Jason Allen, racket sports manager of Midtown Athletic Club.
"Our collaboration with GLASA not only underscores our commitment to providing top-tier accessible experiences for members and athletes, but also delivers the message of inclusivity and accessibility that both organizations hold dear."
The tournament's unique format features an Up-Down match play on Friday night, where able-bodied athletes partner with wheelchair tennis athletes, designed to foster camaraderie and competition.
Following this, the USTA National Level 3 Tournament will unfold over the weekend, featuring intense competition among some of the nation's finest wheelchair tennis players.
On Sunday, GLASA will host a youth learn-to-play wheelchair tennis clinic, providing an opportunity for young enthusiasts to learn from seasoned athletes and coaches.
