Lake Park High's 'Clue: On Stage' to keep you guessing

The Lake Park Theatre Department is putting on the hilarious farce-meets-murder mystery "Clue: On Stage High School Edition"

Directed by English/drama teacher, Sara Keith, the tale begins at a remote mansion, where six mysterious guests assemble for an unusual dinner party where murder and blackmail are on the menu. When their host turns up dead, they all become suspects.

"Clue" is the comedy whodunit that will leave both cult-fans and newcomers in stitches as they try to figure out - who did it, where, and with what!

The play is based on the classic 1985 movie, based on the Hasbro board game Clue and adapted from the screenplay by Jonathan Lynn, Hunter Foster, Eric Price and Sandy Rustin.

Tickets, which may be purchased at the door, are $5, $3 for non-Lake Park students, and free for seniors and Lake Park students

Performances will be 7 p.m. Thursday to Saturday, Oct. 19-21, in the East Campus Dice Auditorium, 600 Medinah Road, Roselle.

Q. Why did you choose Clue for Lake Park High School's fall play?

Sara Keith: It's a murder mystery comedy and based on one of my favorite 1985 movies.

Lake Park was originally planning to perform the stage version of "Clue" in 2020, but due to COVID, had to change course and perform virtual and radio plays.

It's nice to come full circle and perform this play as intended, for a live audience. The seniors in the show now were freshmen when the productions were virtual.

Q. For those who aren't familiar, please describe the plot.

Keith: The classic board game is brought to life in "Clue: On Stage High School Version! "

Six guests are invited to a dinner party thrown by an anonymous host.

They are given aliases - Colonel Mustard (sophomore Tyler Graham), Mrs. White (junior Meya Wiggins), Mr. Green (junior George Moore), Mrs. Peacock (sophomore Daisy Rimer), Professor Plum (sophomore Jason Sullivan) and Miss Scarlet (senior Mia Mannella).

Though discouraged from revealing personal information, it is soon discovered that all of them have fallen victim to the same blackmailer, their very host of the evening.

Each is presented with a weapon and an option: pay their extortionist double, or kill the innocent butler (junior Anthony Johnson).

What follows is a madcap, slapstick evening full of murder, mystery and laughs as they seek to puzzle out the culprit among criminals.

Keith: There are 13 students in the cast, listed below.

Q. What do you think audiences will enjoy most about this play?

Keith: The audience will definitely enjoy getting to see a wonderful '80s movie brought to life on stage. "Clue" is one of my favorite murder mysteries, and I know a lot of people in the community love it too!

It's a silly, slapstick comedic show that everyone will love.
