Online sign-up ends Oct. 11 for Marklund's Run, Walk & Roll

Online registration for Marklund's upcoming Run, Walk & Roll 5K/1-mile event will close at midnight Wednesday, Oct. 11.

The popular event, now in its 11th year, will be held at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, in Geneva. Although online registration will close, participants may sign up in person on race day.

As the name implies, this event, hosted by Marklund, a nonprofit organization that serves adults and children with profound developmental disabilities, welcomes runners, walkers and rollers--those in assistive devices like wheelchairs. Among the hundreds of participants who join in the early morning event are many of Marklund's own residents--non-ambulatory individuals who take part in wheelchairs pushed by staff, volunteers or friends and family members.

With three locations in Geneva, Bloomingdale and Elgin, Marklund provides residential, educational and day services programs in its mission to make everyday life possible for individuals with disabilities.
