Defense leads the way as Prospect routs Rolling Meadows

Prospect football coach Dan DeBoeuf might have said it best about his team's defense Friday night.

"Our kids played super hard tonight, and we are happy about the end result," DeBoeuf said. "Our defense has the capability to be super dangerous. Our secondary played very well."

With 4 interceptions and a stout defense, the host Knights thrilled a large homecoming crowd with a 51-7 decision over Rolling Meadows.

"Our focus the past couple of weeks is to take care of what we do," DeBoeuf said.

George "Crash" Davis, Brock Clay, Charles Knee and Benjamin Reidel all had interceptions as Prospect improved to 4-1 and 1-0 in the Mid-Suburban East.

The Mustangs, who picked up 190 yards of offense to the Knights' 409, fell to 1-4 and 0-1.

"We didn't do some things very well," said Rolling Meadows coach Sam Baker. "They kicked our tails. With their defense they limited to what we could do. You have to be able to pass and run against a team like Prospect and we didn't do either."

Davis helped the Knights move in the right direction by recovering a fumble midway through the first quarter at the Knights 47-yard line.

Four plays later quarterback Jack Skoog connected on a 17-yard pass to Maxwell Hargadon for a 6-0 lead.

Noah Easter scored on a 21 yard run with 1:52 left in the quarter for a 14-0 lead.

The Knights finished the quarter with a 27-yard touchdown pass from Skoog (15-33, 1 int., 302 yards) to Nicholas Carlucci for a 21-0 lead.

"Coach DeBoeuf mentions the strongest link as playing together on defense and we all did good," Davis said. "We followed our coaches' instructions."

Davis intercepted a pass at the Mustangs 10 and ran the ball in with 3:56 left in the first half for a 28-0 lead.

Rolling Meadows quarterback Joe Brigham tossed a 3-yard touchdown pass to Peyton Wiles with 2:12 left in the first half.

Skoog connected with Jaylen Calhoun on a 50-yard touchdown pass with 56 seconds left. Skoog then scored as time expired for a 42-7 lead. Skoog's touchdown was set up on Brock Clay's interception.

"We watched a lot of film on what they do," Clay said. "We made a lot of good plays on defense. We wanted to make a statement tonight. Our offensive line played a really good game."

Lineman Aaron Murray, Dylan Heber, Vincent Salerna, Thomas Johl, and James Tsagalis did the job upfront for the Knights offense.

Easter finished the scoring with a 3-yard run with 6:35 left in the third quarter. Easter finished with 48 yards on 11 carries.

Hargadon, a sophomore, had 4 catches for 64 yards.
