Experience 1840s life at Pioneer Day Sept. 24 at Stacy's Historic Corners
Come see what life was like for the early settlers of Glen Ellyn, on the same spot where early residents lived.
The Glen Ellyn Historical Society is hosting its annual Pioneer Day on Sunday, Sept. 24.
It will be 1 to 4:30 p.m. at Stacy's Historic Corners, 800 N. Main St. in Glen Ellyn.
This is is an opportunity to try a hand at 1840s life.
Attendees also can interact with the 10th Illinois infantry Regiment Civil War Reenactment Group.
There will be live farm animals, craft-making for kids, candle making, corn shelling, apple peeling, and pioneer games and toys.
Learn how to make a rop and rope a bed, do laundry 1840s style, or experience 1840s school in an outdoor classroom.
Tours will be available of Stacy's Tavern Museum, an award-winning restoration of an authentic 1840s wayside inn which is owned by the Village of Glen Ellyn and operated by the Glen Ellyn Historical Society. It stands in its original location on Geneva Road. The tavern was built by Moses Stacy and his wife, Joanna, in 1846. Visitors will see what life was like in the 1840s, for the Stacy family and for their guests.
Admission is $8 or $4 for children, ages 3 to 17. For historical society members, the cost is $6 and $3. Children under age 3 are free.
