Madcats has music and much more in downtown Palatine

Madcats in downtown Palatine has grown a loyal following since opening its doors nearly two years ago at the former Mac's on Slade location, for its enticing menu and multiple entertainment options every night of the week - including bands on weekends, an open mic, karaoke, bingo, trivia, and blues or jazz jam sessions open to all musicians.

The "musically hip" venue has become a popular entertainment option that brings music lovers together from all around the suburbs and the city, while providing a beloved and welcoming community gathering place that is gaining a reputation for its impressive menu.

"Come as a stranger and leave as a friend," is Madcats' owner, Savio Lobo's, business mantra, who was a Macs on Slade patron when the business operated at 117 W. Slade St., in the heart of Palatine's downtown. Lobo said while he loved Macs on Slade as a customer, he also recognized there were improvements needed for the space, menu, entertainment and acoustics. Before reopening, he invested in many upgrades, such as new flooring, lighting, wall treatments and an additional exit door. Lobo also restored a brick wall in the building that is an original part of what was Palatine's first firehouse, along with a new sound system and acoustic treatments that produce the absolute best sound quality.

The Madcats team is very particular about selecting the bands that perform at the venue and require all bands to submit an electronic press kit for review before booking.

Patrons range in age from 21 to 80+, and enjoy the many entertainment options, along with a first-class menu that features light meals to comfort food, to finer dining selections.

Menu standouts include award-winning chili, drunken shrimp tacos, Brussels sprouts and entree selections such as pulled pork sliders, juicy burgers, rib eye steak and salmon. Lighter options range from a seared yellowfin tuna appetizer, to salads, and protein bowls to name just a few. Food specials are also featured each week, including Taco Tuesdays, Wingy Wednesdays and half price pub burgers on Thursdays.

Private parties are welcome on Saturdays and Sundays during the day and can accommodate 74 people in the front dining room and 25 in the new "back lounge," which includes a pool table.

Lobo attributes much of the business' success to his superior management team, and a friendly staff who cares about what they do and provides excellent service to patrons.

"Our customers tell me all the time they feel at home and comfortable here, and we've also become the 'date night capital' of the Northwest suburbs," Lobo said. "I'm proud that we can provide a place that connects people, in many ways."
