Local band advances to group finals for 'We Can Survive Concert'
Local band, Chiron's Dream, made it to the Group Finals in the Opening Act competition. The winner will perform on stage at the Prudential Center Arena at Audacy's 10th Annual "We Can Survive" benefit concert in New York City.
Headlining artists are Maroon 5, OneRepublic and Kelly Clarkson.
The competition began with over 25,000 musical acts, and is based on public voting. They're asking for your votes to help them win - click here to vote: Chiron's Dream Opening Act (theopenact.com). There are free "daily votes" and "together votes" that support the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention.
Mary Sheridan, lead vocalist and guitarist for the band said, "Approximately 130 people die in the U.S. each day by their own hand. As of 2001, more U.S. service men and women have died by suicide than have on the battlefields. As a band, we have lost friends, colleagues and a former bandmate to suicide. This contest was an opportunity for us to do something about it."
"We are helping to raise funds and awareness for the National Suicide Crisis Hotline Number '988,'" said David Jayko, lead vocalist and keyboardist for Chiron' Dream, and former keyboard player for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band, The Lovin' Spoonful. "If we win, we will debut a song that we hope will help save lives, 'For Jonno-Call 988.'"
