Four Carol Stream Scouts achieve rank of Eagle Scout
Carol Stream Scouts BSA Troop 98 recently held an Eagle Court of Honor for four Scouts: Zachary Maslona, Kyle Morini, Zachary Popham and Aaron Ruszczak.
The ceremony was held on Saturday, Aug. 12, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1244 Army Trail Road in Carol Stream.
Their teamwork and drive for all of them to remain focused and complete the work to achieve Eagle, especially in the face of the COVID lockdown challenges where most other kids might have quit or stopped work.
Their perseverance in helping each other, even when any one of them lost their focus or desire, by keeping their "No Eagle Scout left behind!" mantra throughout, and hopefully persists into a lifelong bond.
Below is a summary of each Scout Eagle project, including the beneficiary organization of these fun and worthy projects.
• Zachary Maslona worked with the St. Francis High School baseball team to clean, repaint and rebuild the wood floors and equipment cabinets within the dugouts. This project took several weeks to advance plan and complete due to weather conditions prior to his senior year baseball season began.
• Kyle Morini built a mud kitchen for Blue Bird Day School, a Wheaton school for children with special needs. The outdoor kitchen had three counters of varying heights, as well as a deck to step up onto, all of which allowed the children to practice using their motor skills to reach for items, use of steps, etc.
• Zachary Popham designed and built an elevated chicken exercise structure for the chicken coop at Cosley Zoo in Wheaton. This also included collecting donations to self fund the project.
• Aaron Ruszczak worked with the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County to build three fish cribs. The cribs structure is designed to be placed into local lakes and ponds, and allows small fish in for protection and keeps the larger predator fish out. Aaron put together a fundraiser to collect money to fund the materials needed for the cribs.
