Wego Drama kicks off season with laughs, opening with 'The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon'

Wego Drama at West Chicago Community High School kicks off the 2023-24 theatrical season with their "New Directors Showcase: The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon" by Don Zolidis.

This hysterical comedy brings to life the classic fairy tales in a new and revised way. It is a very face-paced and clever farce.

It is a great way to start the Wego Drama season theme of "Once More With Feeling." Senior Alex Bradley, one of the directors, states, "This show is full of goofiness and is sure to make people of all ages laugh."

Performances will begin at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Aug. 18-19, at West Chicago Community High School, 326 Joliet St., West Chicago.

Tickets are $8 or $5 for students.

General admission seating tickets are now on sale at www.wegotheatre.com. Tickets will also be available at the door.

The company of actors and crew for the show includes: from Carol Stream: Arson Gutierrez and William Wenberg; from West Chicago: Mariana Acosta, Stephanie Alfaro, Noemi Amaro, Antwan Angeles, Michael Angeles, Issac Argomaniz, Jacob Benitez, Alex Bradley, Lucas Brown, Wil Cooper, Emmanuel Cruz, Pamela Cruz, Danais Gomez-Garcia, Lizeth Hernandez, Sentia Irakoze, Nirali Kadakia, Kayliana Koeune, Matthew Krysinski, Karidja Monjolo, Elisa O'Brien, Edgar Oropeza, Romina Pietanza, Kimberly Ramirez, Jocelyn Ramirez, Alex Rocha, Ryley Salazar Ja'Nyah Villa, and Dayan Zenteno; and from Winfield:, Bo Dragosh, Carolyn Fleming, Caiden McDougall, Avery Moffatt, and Mariah Varnado.

Senior and fellow director Ryley Salazar said, "I've found myself erupting in laughter numerous times throughout the rehearsal process."

The play is directed by Alex Bradley, Ryley Salazar, and Mariah Varnado.

Mark Begovich sponsors the Wego Drama production. Technical Direction is by Christopher Jensen. Costumes are by Kim Maslo.

Junior and fellow director Mariah Varnado said, "I know that no matter how many times I have seen the show, I laugh every time; it is a great one to bring the whole family to see."

The "Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon" (revised edition) is produced through special arrangement with Playscripts, Inc. (www.playscripts.com), New York, New York. The script is written by Don Zolidis.
