Nominations open for Bloomingdale Area Woman of the Year

Do you know of a business woman who has impacted your life or that of your community through her volunteering, leadership and involvement?

Bloomingdale Area Women in Business would like to hear from you. They are now accepting applications for the Georgene Geils Bloomingdale Area Woman of the Year.

A nominee has to be women in Bloomingdale or surrounding communities that has qualities of the award's namesake Georgene Geils.

Georgene Geils (1928-2011) was a prominent local business woman who was a forerunner in the movement of professional women, known for mentoring through her involvement in the community and within her own business.

To honor her memory, the Bloomingdale Area Women in Business and the Bloomingdale Chamber of Commerce annually recognize a woman who has demonstrated similar qualities.

• Strives to empower, embrace and equip women with the knowledge and resources to achieve their personal goals and reach their professional potential.

• Demonstrates excellence, imagination, and initiative in their business or profession.

• Contributes time and energy to improve the quality of life for others in the community.

A panel of judges of past winners will review the nominations and make their selection.

The award presentation will be held at the "Best of Bloomingdale" awards dinner at the Medinah Shriners on Oct. 5.

Nominations are being taken online at www.bloomingdalechamber.com/bawib until Sept. 9.

Bloomingdale Area Women in Business is a dynamic group of women who are seeking to expand professional opportunities for themselves in the Bloomingdale area. Bloomingdale Women in Business are looking for women who possess the ability to: "empower, embrace and equip women with the knowledge and resources to achieve their personal goals and reach their professional potential." Their goal is to offer educational forums, professional recognition, networking opportunities and a chance to form meaningful relationships for women who join the organization.

On Thursday, Aug. 24, Kathy Maykut of ReMax All Pro at 66 Stratford Drive in Bloomingdale is hosting the next BAWIB after-hours event, "Cocktails & Conversation," with celebrity bartender Mayor Franco Coladipietro.

The Bloomingdale Chamber of Commerce supports the success and growth of businesses and the community. Membership is open to any business who wants to invest in their own growth through promoting their business through marketing, sponsorships and building relationships. The chamber offers a variety of free and fee-based events making it possible for members to get involved and be known.
