St. Charles' Baker Memorial United Methodist Church welcomes a new pastor
On July 2, the Rev. David Aslesen was installed as the new pastor of Baker Memorial United Methodist Church in St. Charles.
"Christ is calling the church to be inclusive, extensive and generous in welcoming all people into relationship with God, fully embracing the diversity of humankind, joyfully growing in Christian love, mercy and justice."
A native of South Dakota, Aslesen has served congregations for almost 30 years in the city of Chicago including The Chicago Temple/First UMC, Rockford and suburbs of Glenview, Evanston and Riverside. He previously served the First United Methodist Church in Park Ridge.
In remarks about the congregation's intergenerational approach to ministry, Aslesen said "The church of Christ was born by the Holy Spirit moving among a diversity of people called as one to take the love of Jesus into all parts of the world. No one was excluded from receiving the blessings of God. We welcome all to live into this witness through our mission of welcome and dedication to serving God's people."
As home of the St. Charles Singers and meeting spot for Kiwanis, Pottawatomie Garden Club and many community events, Baker Memorial Church is located at 307 Cedar Ave. in downtown St. Charles.
Worship is 9:30 a.m. every Sunday with online options at www.bakermemorialchurch.org.
The congregation, staff and pastor invite "everyone to experience Christianity for today's world."
