Applications Open for Leadership Northbrook Program
The Northbrook Chamber is now accepting applications for Leadership Northbrook 2023/24, a monthly program that inspires civic engagement. For over 30 years, Leadership Northbrook has provided an educational foundation for those looking to deepen their connections to the Northbrook community and its institutions. Participants meet once a month September through April for instructive site visits at public facilities as well as leading businesses.
By participating in a leadership program, individuals enhance their personal and professional growth. They can develop critical leadership competencies, gain confidence in their abilities, expand their network, and increase their chances of career advancement. Additionally, they explore the institutions and meet the leaders that make Northbrook a great intersection of commerce and community.
Previous year's programs included sessions at Village Hall, the Police and Fire Stations, Glenbrook Hospital, Glenbrook North High School, Techny Prairie Activity Center and the Northbrook Public Library. Business hosts included Bernhard Woodwork, UL Solutions, Wiss Janney Elstner Associates, and Bell Flavors & Fragrances. At each destination, site directors and owners offer insight into the connections between their institutions and the larger village community. Site visits for the coming year will be announced during the program.
Brad Floden, Cobalt Photography, is a graduate of the 2022/23 Leadership class. "I have owned a business in Northbrook for 19 years, and have been very active in the Chamber for the last six," shares Brad. "As involved in the community as I have been, the Leadership Northbrook program gave me insights and educated me on aspects of Northbrook that I never truly appreciated. Being able to speak with village leaders, those in service industries such as police, fire and water, as well as touring the upcoming developments and larger businesses, deepened my connection to the village. My only regret is that the program ends. I heartily recommend it to anyone looking to be involved."
The program also provides an excellent introduction for public sector employees learning about the community they serve. Mike Tokar signed up for Leadership shortly after joining the Park District as Director of Finance and Technology in June 2022. "Leadership Northbrook was a wonderful opportunity for me to meet many local professionals in the area," notes Mike. "I learned a tremendous amount about the community."
Applications are now available for the 2023/24 Leadership class and will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the class is filled. The first class will be held September 8. Space is limited. A registration fee of $300 covers class materials and activities. Contact Chamber Executive Director Kathi Quinn, kathi@northbrookchamber.org to request an application or more information.
