CLC theater to perform 'Schoolhouse Rock Live'

The College of Lake County theater department's production of "Schoolhouse Rock Live" will take place during Schoolhouse Rock's 50th anniversary.

Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, July 14 and 15, and Thursday through Saturday, July 20-22; and at 2 p.m. Sundays, July 16 and 23.

"We are so excited to be celebrating 50 years of 'Schoolhouse Rock,'" theater department chair Craig Rich said. "These wonderful songs bring back so many happy memories. The audience won't be able to resist singing along. This is such a fun musical for the summer. We have an amazing creative team made up of students, faculty, staff and guest artists. The cast is all current students and recent graduates."

A pop culture phenomenon, "Schoolhouse Rock" is an Emmy Award-winning Saturday morning cartoon series that taught history, grammar, math and more through clever, catchy songs.

"Schoolhouse Rock Live!" follows Tom, a schoolteacher who is nervous about his first day of teaching. He tries to relax by watching TV, when various characters emerge from the set and show him how to win his students over with imagination and music through such songs as "Just a Bill," "Lolly, Lolly, Lolly" and "Conjunction Junction."

Tickets are $15 for the general public and $10 for CLC students, teenagers and seniors. Tickets are buy one ticket, get one free opening night, July 14, and Thursday, July 20.
