Plein Air Paint Out at Prospect Heights Public Library
Calling all artists, ages 18 and older, to the Prospect Heights Public Library for an outside Paint Out.
The Prospect Heights Library is bringing together artists, with a variety of experience, in a battle of the brushes to see who can best capture the Prospect Heights Public Library and its surrounding landscape.
Working in their own mediums, using their own supplies, they must create a spectacular rendition of the library and the landscape in front of them, in four hours.
Ten artists will be chosen to compete in the Paint Out competition outside of the Prospect Heights Public Library from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday Aug. 5 (rain date is Saturday Aug. 12). Each artist will supply their own painting materials and supplies, including refreshments for the four hours of the Paint Out, and shelter from the weather.
First prize will be $200, awarded at the end of the four hours.
The 10 artists chosen for the Paint Out will have their final works displayed in the library's cafe area for the month of August, to be judged by library patrons for the People's Choice Award. The People's Choice Award - a $75 gift card to Dick Blick - will be awarded at the end of the month. All art work will be picked up by the artist at the end of the month.
Interested artists must submit a sample landscape or buildingscape art piece created within the last five years to be reviewed and juried into the Paint Out. Artists are selected on merit by a library panel of expert judges. Deadline for entries is July 14. Contestants will be judged on what they can complete at the end of four hours.
The Paint Out is open to all artists, ages 18 and older, from any library district. No preferential treatment is given to residents of Prospect Heights.
A list of selected artists will be posted at the PHPL.info website no later than July 21, and notified via email.
The library is at 12 N. Elm St., in Prospect Heights. For information call (857) 259-3500.
