Three Wauconda-area roads closing July 5 for roundabout construction

The Lake County Division of Transportation will be closing Darrell, Neville and Case roads near Wauconda to through traffic for 110 days, starting at 5 a.m. on July 5.

The closure is necessary to construct a roundabout and realign the intersections of those three roads, officials say.

According to the LCDOT, roundabouts provide safer and more efficient traffic flow in many locations because traffic moves slower and in only one direction, leading to fewer and less severe crashes.

This will be the first of three roundabouts built as part of the Darrell Road Corridor Improvement. The others, planned for construction in 2024, are at Dowell and Fisher roads.

A detour will travel from Dowell Road to Darrell Road to Route 120 to Route 12 to Bonner Road.
