NSDAR chapter shows patriotic colors at Libertyville Days
This year's Libertyville Days parade featured 90 entries. The theme this year was "MVPs of 23."
Members of Libertyville's Ansel Brainerd Cook Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Children of the American Revolution and Husbands of the Daughters of the American Revolution were all patriotically dressed and ready to walk in the parade.
Mary Schultz, one of ABC's members, was the proud flag-waving passenger in a red Mini Cooper convertible driven by ABC member Renee Petersen. ABC member
Susan McGlade is a Civil War period re-enactor. She wore her period clothing and also marched in the parade. ABC members handed out American flags and packaged patriotic-themed candy throughout the route.
ABC also had a booth in Cook Park in front of the Ansel Brainerd Cook Home. The booth was adorned in red, white and blue decorations. ABC members were there to answer questions about the DAR or anything genealogy related. Adults were given the opportunity to write out "Thank you for your service" cards for the veterans who go to Washington, D.C., on the Lake County Honor Flight.
Children were given the opportunity to draw pictures for the veterans. American flags and candy were also handed out.
Members of the ABC chapter have a group of volunteer genealogists that assist people in discovering their family roots. These genealogy workshops will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 5, Aug. 5 and Sept. 6 in the downstairs area of the Cook Library. If you're interested in joining the DAR, or if you just need help researching your family, feel free to join these workshops.
