Schaumburg hosting business, student cycling competitions in June

The village of Schaumburg will celebrate National Bike Month in June in a number of ways, including its fifth annual Business Bike Classic and the inaugural Student Bike Classic.

The Business Bike Classic is a contest open to any business or business organization with four or more people who have a designated workplace in Schaumburg.

Teams of four will record their cycling mileage completed during the month of June. Mileage completed on stationary bikes and spinning miles also are eligible.

The top teams and individuals in each tier will win prizes and be recognized on the village's communication channels. The team with the most miles will be awarded the traveling Business Bike Classic trophy at the July 11 village board meeting.

Teams can register online at strava.com/clubs/1048352.

Once a team is registered, its members will receive an invitation via email to join the Strava Club, a free site where they can record their mileage. The program increases accountability and gives riders the chance to interact, organizers say.

Team names must be in good taste and include the name of the agency represented. Each team member also must sign a release waiver at schaumburgil.seamlessdocs.com/f/2023Waiver.

Each Friday in June, team leaders will receive a link to submit their team's mileage. Cumulative results will be distributed for teams in the novice, intermediate, and advanced tiers (totaling up to 650 miles, 651-1,500 miles, and 1,501+ miles, respectively).

The new Student Bike Classic contest is open to elementary, middle, and high school students from school districts 54 and 211. Students will record their cycling mileage completed during the month after signing up online at schaumburgil.seamlessdocs.com/f/SBC_SIGNUP.

Student contestants also must sign a waiver of release to participate.

Each Friday, students will submit cumulative mileage via email through the link.

Results will be distributed in tiers by school level, i.e. elementary, middle and high school.

The top students in each tier will win prizes and be recognized on the village's communication channels.
