CLC celebrates 2023 graduates during its spring commencement

As the 2023 College of Lake County spring graduates finish their time at the college and continue their journey, Juliana Zarinana is excited about what lies ahead.

"It's bittersweet, getting ready to walk the stage," said Zarinana, who is pursuing a career in cybersecurity. "But it's a great feeling to end it in a nice way."

Family and friends packed the gym Saturday, May 13, to celebrate the 2023 spring graduating class at CLC. Nearly 400 students participated in the ceremony, and over 1,000 credentials will be awarded.

"On behalf of the entire college community, I congratulate you," CLC President Dr. Lori Suddick said. "With this 2023 spring commencement, CLC has graduated more than 61,000 students."

Kaitlin Hart also addressed her fellow graduates before they walked the stage and entered the next chapter of their lives.

"Change is scary, but change is necessary, especially for us at this stage," Hart said. "We not only have to allow this, but welcome and embrace it fully."

Other graduates joined Zarinana in reflecting on their time at CLC.

Kyle Martinez, who is continuing his education at University of Wisconsin-Parkside, said, "It feels good. I'm going to look back fondly on the community and my time in the classroom."

Valeria Peskator, who graduated with an associate in nursing, said, "It's been a long two years. I love everybody I've met in the nursing program, and I'm excited to continue these friendships."
