Science Academy of Chicago Students Win Honors at State & Regional Level Science Fairs

Almost two dozen seventh and eighth grade students from Science Academy of Chicago earned honor awards at the Illinois Junior Academy of Science (IJAS) State Fair April 28th-29th, 2023, at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale while other students attended the local Science and Engineering Fair CONSEF and also took home a dozen awards.

In total out of 17 SAC students at the IJAS State Level, they were awarded 8 Gold medals, 11 Silver, and 4 Bronze medals. Special awards were also awarded such as the Thermo Fisher Award and the Jeremy Hoffmann Memorial Award. Several students also earned monetary awards.

At the regional level competition located at Northeastern Illinois University competition on March 11th, 2023, students competed with their posters and were awarded for their paper portion of their science fair projects as well. For this competition, SAC had 32 total competing students! Overall, students earned 23 Gold Medals, 9 Silver, 2 Bronze, and 1 Participation award. SAC was also awarded the BEST SCHOOL for the IJAS paper session 2023.

On April 29th, 2023, a dozen SAC students from 7th and 8th grades participated in the CONSEF Science and Engineering Fair located at the Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL, and were awarded 7 Gold Medals, 1 Silver, and 3 Bronze. SAC students also won FIVE best of categories: Botany, Biochemistry, Computer Science, Material Science, and Engineering! SAC also won the Grand Award from the Junior Department.

Overall, the school year of 2022-2023 was such an amazing year for SAC's 7th and 8th graders. SAC's teachers and staff are so proud of them and their successful participation in each Science Fair. These competitions are an excellent experience for students to showcase how they go beyond the classroom to develop their own investigations. SAC would like to congratulate all of the students, school faculty, and parents that participated in and supported the school.
