Schaumburg Youth Orchestra to hold auditions on June 6 for 2023-24 season
The Schaumburg Youth Orchestra, entering its 35th season this fall, will hold auditions for area student musicians wishing to join. Auditions will be held on Tuesday, June 6, at the Al Larson Prairie Center for the Arts, 201 Schaumburg Court, in Schaumburg. Alternative audition options are available for students unable to attend the June 6 auditions.
Kevan Kosobayashi, director of the advanced-level Schaumburg Youth Symphony Orchestra, looks forward to a season that will offer members unique opportunities.
"We're fortunate to have an accomplished in-house choir (Schaumburg Choral Artists) with which we can perform master choral works such as the Rutter Requiem in October," says Kosobayashi. "We also recently started offering concerto opportunities for members, and this fall we're honored to participate in Violins of Hope" he adds, referring to the national tour of string instruments recovered from the Holocaust to be featured at the Schaumburg Township District Library.
Amanda Martin, who directs the String Ensemble for students new to orchestral playing, says younger students enjoy the cultural environment of the Prairie Center, where the members rehearse and perform.
"It's more than just learning and playing music," says Martin. "The program also gives them the experience of being a young artist who plays in a formal setting as a professional orchestra would."
The season begins in August and runs through May 2024.
Auditions will consist of a performance of a short solo work, musical scales, and sight-reading. Details, scheduling, and registration are available on the orchestra's website at www.schaumburgyouthorchestra.com.
