SST's (Schaumburg Summer Theatre) 33rd annual production follows matchmaker Dolly Levi on a musical romp through 19th-century New York that bursts with humor, romance, energetic dance and some of the greatest songs in musical theatre history, including "Put on Your Sunday Clothes" and the iconic title tune.
The 1964 show marks the celebrated company's return to classic Broadway musicals, after presenting more contemporary works including "Urinetown," "The SpongeBob Musical," and "Ragtime."
"The company cut its teeth on shows that generations long before us enjoyed," says Rob Pileckis, assistant director at the Prairie Center, citing early sell-out productions such as "Kiss Me Kate," "On the Town," "Damn Yankees," and "Guys and Dolls."
Pileckis is also thrilled to be once again directing the company after a five-year hiatus.
"For me it's all about working with young talent," says Pileckis. "We already have one Tony-winning actor among our alumni. You never know who might be next."
Joining this summer's creative "dream team" are choreographer and costumer Melissa Crabtree and music director Tim Koll.
Public performances of Hello Dolly! will be held at the Prairie Center on July 28, 29, 30 and Aug. 4 and 5.
