Glenview briefs: Chicago River cleanup; AAPI Heritage Month at library
Chicago River Day
Friends of the Chicago River's Chicago River Day is scheduled for May 13, with more than 70 cleanup efforts of the Chicago-Calumet River system planned that day.
Glenview will have two cleanup sites at the Techny Basin and in downtown. Work goes on between 9 a.m.-noon on May 13.
For the Techny Basin site, a meeting place is the Aldi store parking lot off Willow Road. For downtown Glenview, the meeting site is the public parking lot next to Oil Lamp Theater, 1733 Glenview Road.
Registration is recommended by visiting chicagoriver.org.
AAPI Heritage Month
Glenview Public Library is offering several programs in recognition of May as Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.
Sessions on Chinese culture, Southwest Asian and Indian cuisine, a craft program, and "The Untold Story of Mahjong" are planned.
The library also offers podcasts on Asian American authors and has assembled a few books and movies with Asian American themes.

Bites & Brews
People gathered at The Glen Club April 26 for the 10th Bites & Brews, a celebration of local purveyors of food, beer and wine. Organized by the Glenview Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by The Glen Club and Glenview Bank & Trust, chamber Executive Director Meghan Kearney said the event was attended by a "lively crowd" of people from the village and throughout the North Shore. She thanked chamber staff and volunteers and encouraged people to support small businesses throughout the year.
Sponsor Glenview Bank & Trust's Katie Galbas commended the event's networking opportunities, energetic atmosphere, and food. "People from various industries and background gathered, creating a diverse and engaging crowd," she said.

Diaper dandies
Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church's Women's Guild 35 held its annual Diaper Drive in March. Again, it was a success.
The drive netted more than 16,000 diapers to be donated to families throughout the parish and four sharing parishes - Our Lady of Tepeyac, St. James, St. Philip Neri and St. Sabina - as well as Catholic Charities in Des Plaines, the Maryville Crisis Center and the Women's Center.
The guild's laundry drive is in September.
