District 214's Theater Lab announces cast for original comedy, 'Warden of the Mint,' by award-winning Chicago-native playwright

The Theater Lab, a District 214 Community Education program, is excited to announce its cast of the world premiere of the original comedy, "Warden of the Mint," by William Costanza. The production will be a limited five-performance run, May 11-14, 2023, at Forest View Educational Center in Arlington Heights.

"Warden of the Mint" is based on the true story of how Isaac Newton, the man who invented the reflecting telescope, developed calculus, and discovered gravity, also went undercover to catch and convict counterfeiters.

Costanza, a Chicago native, is an award-winning playwright whose work has appeared in Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, San Diego, Washington, D.C., Detroit, Texas and Maryland. He is a member of the Dramatist Guild of America and currently resides in the Washington, D.C. area, where he is associate adjunct professor at Georgetown University.

Costanza will be offering a Q&A (Question & Answer) session after the 7:30 p.m. performance Saturday, May 12. The session will be open to any audience members in attendance that evening for no additional charge.

The cast of Warden of the Mint features (in alphabetical order) Michelle Annette (Hazel McCauley), Teresa J. Arnold (Understudy Maggie Halloway, Hazel McCauley), Brendan Chapman (Thomas Halloway), Alex Croft (Understudy Sir Isaac Newton), Caryl Davidson (Maggie Halloway), Egor J Gribbet (John Locke), Caleb Kurowski (Hopton Haynes), Deb Luethy (Understudy Jailer Reuss), Nancy Morrison (Jailer Reuss), Cliff Perotti (William Chaloner), and Kaylee Williams (Sir Isaac Newton).

The creative team includes John Meyers (Artistic Director), Patrick Zielinski (Producer), Chris Good (Production and Stage Manager), Teresa J. Arnold (Marketing Director), Nancy Morrison and Teresa J. Arnold (Properties Managers), Emerson Ford (Costume Designer), Jasmine Luethy (Dialect Coach), and Michael Tuffy (Violence Coach/Choreographer).

Performances are Thursday, May 11 at 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 12 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, May 13 at 3:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, May 14 at 3:00 p.m. and will take place at Forest View Educational Center, 2121 South Goebbert Road, Arlington Heights, IL 60005.

General admission tickets are $18 in advance, $20 at the door, $12 for students, and District 214 Gold Card Members receive 15% off ($15.30). In celebration of Mothers' Day, moms are invited to attend our performance for free Sunday, May 14 at 3 p.m.
