The arts collide during CLC's Fear No Art Festival April 21-22

The art disciplines combine during the 24th Annual Fear No Art Festival at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 21, and 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 22, on the Mainstage Theatre of the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts at the College of Lake County's Grayslake Campus.

The annual Fear No Art festival is a celebration featuring a variety of emerging choreographers, dancers, musicians, singers, actors, photographers, artists, graphic designers and poets. This festival supports the artistic development and work of both CLC college students and community artists at large.

Dance instructor and the show's artistic director Valerie Alpert started Fear No Art in 1999 as the first show she produced at College of Lake County. Unlike most student performances that are led by faculty, Fear No Art is a collection of student originals.

"When I went to college, there was little opportunity for students to present and showcase their own work," Alpert said. "I think it is important that students are given an opportunity to have a safe space and mentoring in their own creative process."

The show is presenting a variety of performance styles including: Avi Kritzman, who turns umbrella foot juggling into a choreographic dance; hip-hop dances from Andy Anisco, Ben Torres and Kendra McCoy; Latin dance by Giselle Leon; and contemporary ballet by Christine Chernoff.

Visual artists displaying their work in the lobby include: George Erkenswick, watercolor painting and ink on paper, acrylic painting on canvas; Vince Adams, fine art photography; Tanner Newman, oil paint; CLC Communications instructor Chris Cooling, painted posters created by artists from Ghana.

Buy your tickets online in advance at www.jlcenter.clcillinois.edu. Tickets are $12; $10 for seniors 65 and older and military; and $5 for children younger than 12.
