Celebrate Earth Month with CLC during April
Award-winning musician, artist and climate change activist Beatie Wolfe, described as a "musical weirdo and visionary," headlines this year's Earth Month celebration at College of Lake County with a pair of artistic showcases.
Wolfe will be featured in an art gallery exhibit running March 31 to April 10 in the Robert T. Wright Gallery of Art. On April 17, she will be streaming in live to share her music and art to help communicate about the climate crisis, followed by local author John Wasik in person to share practical hyperlocal climate solutions.
Previously just Earth Week, the celebration lasts all month this April and is part of CLC's celebration of Community College Month. Get involved in one of the many events and learn from experts in the field of sustainability.
"We are expanding festivities in April this year to encompass a whole Earth Month," Sustainability Manager David Husemoller said. "There are lots of opportunities to get involved and find new ways to be more sustainable during the many events we have planned."
The community can get in on the action during the buckthorn cutting event at the Horticulture Building at the Grayslake Campus April 1 and at the Japanese garden cleanup April 28.
Virtual events include learning about sustainability from international and moral perspectives with Dr. Jason Hanna on April 20 and learning about the ban of single use plastics at Lake County facilities on April 26.
Look for CLC's Sustainability Club displays to be featured at the Grayslake Public Library April 8-29.
CLC is recognized as a local and national leader in sustainability. By being more sustainable, CLC strives to inspire students, the Lake County community and other colleges to improve their impact on the environment and create opportunities in the workforce.
CLC is also hosting the Green Living Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 15. The Green Living Fair is a free and fun opportunity for community members to learn about how to live a greener life and interact with people at green organizations making a difference. Bring old bicycles, eyeglasses and shoes to recycle.
