Frost students, area seniors connect over model trains

It's one of - if not the - most perfect hobby in the world: Collecting, designing, and operating model trains. It's a passion that inspires, entertains and educates.

Last week, it was also the vehicle for joining generations. Members of the Interact Club of Robert Frost Junior High School in Schaumburg visited Friendship Village of Schaumburg's Model Train Club. The Interact Club is a group of students wanting to connect with the greater community, including residents of Friendship Village.

The very active Model Train Club at the senior living community has a 900-square-foot workshop decorated with photos and artwork of all things locomotive, as well as model train layouts.

Much of the equipment, including miles of track and hundreds of engines and train cars, have been brought from personal collections and donated by fellow train enthusiasts.

The students were so entranced by the model train club that they've indicated they'd like to return for another visit.

For 45 years, Friendship Village has been providing Chicago area seniors with retirement living options. For information, call (847) 884-5110 or visit www.FriendshipVillage.org.
