Dr. Cheryl Mora to Serve as the Chicago Dental Society's Next Director of Scientific Programs

The Chicago Dental Society (CDS) named Cheryl Mora, D.D.S, M.A.G.D, of Vernon Hills, Illinois, Director of Scientific Programs for the organization. She assumed the position on March 1, 2023, and succeeded Ted Borris, D.D.S., who stepped down from the role after eight years. As the Director of Scientific Programs, Dr. Mora will oversee the development, coordination and execution of all high-quality educational and scientific programming for CDS.

"Continuing education is a critical part of our careers as dental professionals. It's important to look at the ways these learning opportunities are offered and strive to provide a diverse array of content that can help individuals excel in all aspects of their career, as well as their personal life," says Dr. Mora. "I am thrilled to take on this role and look forward to creating new and exciting learning opportunities for our CDS members that will help them to grow as clinicians, business owners and individuals."

As a proponent and practitioner of lifelong learning, Dr. Mora is well-qualified for the Director of Scientific Programs role. Dr. Mora has run the continuing education programs for the Illinois Academy of General Dentistry (ILAGD) for the past 20 years. She has also served as president of ILAGD, chair of the ILAGD Continuing Education Committee and oversaw the Master Track Program, designed for doctors who want to receive a Mastership designation from the Academy. She also previously served as Program Chair for the 2021 Midwinter Meeting, playing a role in creating the educational program for that meeting, which was hosted as a virtual event for the first time in the Midwinter Meeting's 156-year history. She recalls the virtual event as a critical lesson on the importance of online learning and coordination of virtual programming.

"Dr. Mora understands the important role that education plays in helping the dental community continue to innovate and drive the profession forward," said Dr. Ted Borris. "She and I also share the belief that experienced leaders play a critical role in mentoring and guiding early-career professionals to help them become the future leaders of the profession. I can't think of anyone more qualified to take on this role, and I'm excited to see what she accomplishes in the years ahead."

Dr. Mora holds a Bachelor of Science and Nursing from Vanderbilt University and earned her dental degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry. Previously, she ran two general dentistry practices, one in Vernon Hills, Illinois, and the other in Arlington Heights, Illinois.

Established in 1864, CDS is the largest local society of the American Dental Association, with more than 4,000 members in Cook, Lake and DuPage counties.
