Endorsements: Broadfield, Dannegger and Goldberg Dist. 95
This endorsement is a consensus opinion of the Daily Herald Editorial Board.
Six candidates seek three open seats on the Lake Zurich Community Unit School District 95 school board on April 4. Douglas Goldberg is the only incumbent on the ballot, which also includes newcomers Shawn Broadfield, Natashia Dannegger, Kristen Paul, Kelly Pinter and Adam Weingarten.
All are qualified candidates and would serve the district well.
First, Goldberg should stay on the board. He's experienced, is ready to roll out and execute the strategic plan to produce lifelong learners. His finance background will help keep the budget in check. He's ready to continue celebrating the success of students.
Broadfield said he has the time needed to serve. He's prepared to ask good questions, represent the community voice and provide guidance to the administration. He's involved in the community, has a business background and says safety and transparency are priorities. He supports preparing students for careers through advanced placement, trades, transition placement and new learner skills.
Dannegger has served on district committees, including strategic planning, the referendum, superintendent search and redistricting. She would like to see the district implement a dual-language program.
Paul aims to be a positive voice for students. She is ready to listen, create, review and maintain policies that support all students. Her experiences as an educator and administrator would be beneficial to the board.
Pinter wants to help close the achievement gaps for lower income students, prevent bullying and provide a safe, inclusive culture. She says a strong curriculum should include teaching students about a global society to prepare them for college or career path.
Weingarten is a volunteer with the district's IncubatorEDU business class. He says social and emotional learning should be equally important as providing a strong curriculum. His personal experience includes working with budgets, strategic planning, creating policies and board governance.
Voters cannot go wrong with any of these six candidates. We favor the mixture of experience, energy and innovative thinking we see in the combination of Shawn Broadfield, Natashia Dannegger and Douglas Goldberg. They get our endorsement.
