Lakemoor to consider home rule taxing restrictions
Lakemoor trustees Tuesday will consider placing restrictions on the village's special taxing authority should home rule designation be approved by voters April 4.
The village board is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. at village hall, 28581 Route 120.
Under home rule, officials can raise taxes or create new ones. It also allows communities to use currently restricted funds, such as motel and hotel taxes, for purposes other than promotional activities.
For communities with a population below 25,000, home rule designation can be achieved only through voter approval. According to the 2020 census, Lakemoor's population was 6,182.
