Man pleads guilty to possessing carjacked vehicle found in Naperville

A Chicago man pleaded guilty Monday to possession of a car that had been stolen in a carjacking.

Damien C. Plummer, 23, accepted a sentence of 140 days in jail, according to DuPage County court records. He will have to serve at least 50% of that. He will receive credit for the 70 days he spent in jail in 2021 before he posted bail.

Naperville police reported that on Feb. 11, 2021, they found an unoccupied vehicle on the 1400 block of Fairway Drive and began watching it after determining it had been taken in an armed carjacking in Chicago.

After three men got in and one started the car, police arrested them. Officers found two handguns and ammunition near the front-seat occupants, and Plummer had the key to another carjacked vehicle, according to an affidavit for a search warrant.

Co-defendant Tommie Coleman pleaded guilty in January to aggravated unlawful use of a weapon for having a .40-caliber Smith & Wesson handgun without having a Firearm Owner's Identification card. The 20-year-old Hammond resident will be sentenced on March 23.

Defendant Karl E. Brown III, also of Hammond, has a March 23 court date. He is charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
