Bond set at $2,500 for Des Plaines man charged with misdemeanor weapons counts

Bond has been set to $2,500 for a Des Plaines man facing misdemeanor weapons counts, officials said Friday.

Police stopped a vehicle driven by Eduardo Hernandez, 19, near Oakton and Badger streets, just before midnight Feb. 1, according to a news release from the Mount Prospect Police Department. Officers noticed drug paraphernalia in the car, prompting a search.

Police found two handguns and ammunition in the purse of Hernandez's passenger, 17, the release said, but Hernandez claimed the weapons were his.

Hernandez was charged Feb. 2 with two misdemeanor counts of unlawful weapons use; the 17-year-old passenger was charged with two felony counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and was taken to the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center, police said.

Hernandez's next court date is scheduled for March 7 in Rolling Meadows.
