Schaumburg High students host charity soup luncheon

Schaumburg High School's charity soup lunch returned this year for the first time since December 2019, serving up three choices of delicious broths prepared by Food Science and Nutrition classes.

The soup lunch was a fixture at the school for years, but paused during the COVID pandemic.

This year, students prepared three favorites as determined by staff: Roasted red pepper and tomato, cream of chicken with wild rice, and Tuscan potato and sausage with spinach.

Family and Consumer Sciences Department Chairwoman Emily Lehky estimated the class served more than 70 soup meals, raising $665. All proceeds went to help Schaumburg High School charities: The Epton Fund, which helps qualifying Schaumburg students pay for school-related items, and Hope Spaces, which supports students by providing clothing - especially cold weather gear - and food to take home, as needed, over the weekend.

Both are overseen by the Student Services department.
