Batavia Plain Dirt Gardener Club to host program on aging Batavia dam Jan. 17

The Batavia Plain Dirt Gardeners will hold its next monthly meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

Batavia City Council member Abby Beck, who is an environmentalist on staff with the Conservation Foundation in Naperville, will speak about Batavia's situation with a crumbling dam that needs to be addressed.

Several alternatives have been presented. Beck will outline their varying impacts on the river, the Batavia Wildflower Sanctuary, and the city.

Beck, who holds a Master's Degree in Environmental Science, has been active with environmental issues throughout the area.

It will start with a social gathering at 6:45 p.m., followed by the business meeting and presentation at 7 p.m.

The club meets at the Batavia Public Library, 10 S. Batavia Ave. (Route 31).
