Winterlights in the Fabyan Japanese Garden awarded grant from ComEd

The Fabyan Japanese Garden in Geneva was awarded a $2,500 Powering the Holidays grant from ComEd and the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus in October.

The funds will be used to add parking lot lighting and new lighting features for the annual Winterlights in the Fabyan Japanese Garden.

It will be open on select weekends from Nov. 25 to Jan. 28.

Family and friends will enjoy the peace and tranquility of the historic circa 1910 Fabyan Japanese Garden during the magic of winter.

Passing under the garden's traditional Japanese torii gate, visitors will leave the mundane world and enter a sacred one, according to Japanese tradition.

The softly lit path will direct visitors past the Waiting Bench and offer a peek into the Teahouse before revealing a spectacular view of the Moon Bridge.

Winterlights in the Fabyan Japanese Garden will be open Fridays and Saturdays from 5 to 7 p.m. on Nov. 25 to Dec. 16. Join them on Saturday, Dec. 17, for a special Winter Solstice Celebration.

It will continue in January on Saturdays from 5 to 7 p.m. Jan. 7-28.

Tickets are $8 per person. Age 5 or younger are admitted free.

Entry to this event will be timed at 15-minute intervals.

For tickets, visit PPFV.org/winterlights.

Note, the garden path is packed mulch and crushed gravel with several grade changes and steps. The paved path from the edge of the parking lot to the garden is approximately 0.10 miles. If you have mobility difficulties, contact Preservation Partners of Fox Valley for available accommodations.

The Fabyan Japanese Garden is located in the Fabyan West Forest Preserve, 1925 S. Batavia Ave., on Route 31, just north of Fabyan Parkway.
