Holiday spirit - and community spirit - on parade

Glenview's Holiday in the Park & Parade will take place from 4-6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26.

The parade will run from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 1775 Grove St., west down Glenview Road, and will end at Jackman Park, 1930 Prairie St.

At Jackman Park, Santa and his helpers will greet children with a gift. People can enjoy hot cocoa, treats, carolers, a hayride, and a children's train ride.

This is the 26th Holiday in the Park & Parade, which is presented by the Glenview Chamber of Commerce and supported by sponsors Berkshire Hathaway, Busey Bank, Northern Seasonal Services and NorthShore Glenbrook Hospital.

"The big highlight of the parade is the community spirit," Meghan Kearney, Glenview Chamber executive director, said in a news release.

Sponsorship opportunities remain; visit www.glenviewchamber.com and seek the item with the photo of Santa.

Congratulations

The Illinois Association of Park Districts presented two awards to the Glenview Park District on Oct. 14 at its Best of the Best Awards Gala in Wheeling.

The park district earned an IAPD "Best Friend of Illinois Parks" business award, in the small business category, for its partnership with Glenview Bank & Trust. The bank signed a four-year partnership in April that will help the Glenview Park District present community events, concerts, running races and the Firecracker Classic Golf Tournament and 3v3 Soccer tourney.

Glenview resident Martha Demko received one of the five Outstanding Citizen Volunteer awards the IAPD presented to people statewide.

Demko, 100, is the chair for charity in the Park District's East Wing Glenview Senior Center, 24000 Chestnut Ave. A 22-year volunteer, her specialty is creating stuffed teddy bears for children at local hospitals. She shops for the flannel and cuts and sews the bears by hand.

After the Fourth of July shooting in Highland Park, she and her team sent 50 teddy bears to the town. In January 2020 Demko and her team sent 636 bears to hospitals in Glenview and Skokie, and to the Round Lake Beach Police Department.

Youth Services and U2

Youth Services of Glenview/Northbrook will present a fundraising concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts, 9501 Skokie Blvd., Skokie.
