Hersey HS opening its doors to student filmmakers from around the world
The ARCLight Student Film Festival is an international event, highlighting the creativity of student filmmakers not only at John Hersey High School, but from all over the world. The festival is now accepting submissions for the 2023 event, which will screen selected films on April 29, 2023.
"As soon as we opened submissions, we started receiving films," says festival director Bruce Janu, who also serves as John Hersey High School's librarian. So far, they have received films from not just the United States, but from Spain, Croatia, and Iran. Several students at Hersey are in the process of making films, as well.
The ARCLight Student Film Festival accepts films in all categories under 10 minutes in length. The films are being judged by a panel which includes experts in the field of filmmaking. Selected films will screen at the festival, held on April 29, 2023 in Hersey's Academic Resource Center. Filmmakers are encouraged to attend. There will be a filmmaker's reception and a red carpet event as well. Several awards will be given in various categories including Best Foreign Film, Best Local Film, Best Cinematography, Best Editing and Best Performances.
The festival is open to any student filmmaker attending a secondary school or its equivalent. Submissions are free and the deadline to submit without penalty is March 15, 2023. After that, a late fee of $5 will be assessed until the final deadline of April 4.
