ECC Theatre looks to the stars with 'Silent Sky' opening Nov. 11
Elgin Community College Theatre presents "Silent Sky," Lauren Gunderson's play about 19th-century astronomer Henrietta Swan Leavitt.
The show opens on Friday, Nov. 11 and runs through Nov. 20. It is directed by Susan A. Robinson, theater instructional coordinator and associate professor of theater at ECC.
"Silent Sky" is the true story of the Harvard astronomer, exploring a woman's place in society during a time of immense scientific discoveries when women's ideas were dismissed until men claimed credit for them. Social progress, like scientific progress, can be hard to see among earthly complications.
Leavitt and her female peers believe in both, and their dedication changed how we understand heaven and earth.
Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 3 p.m. Sundays, Nov. 11 to 20, in the SecondSpace Theatre at ECC Arts Center, Building H, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.
Tickets to "Silent Sky" are $12 or $10 for seniors and students and can be purchased on the newly redesigned ECC Arts Center website at eccartscenter.org/events/theater/.
