Glenview trustees approve Dermody formality

Glenview trustees on Oct. 6 approved a formality that sets the stage for the issuance of building permits for the Logistics Campus Subdivision on Sanders Road.

Approved as part of the board's consent agenda in a meeting that lasted only about 12 minutes, the board approved a resolution creating nine lots and five outlots within the former Allstate campus.

Glenview municipal code requires that all properties be complete lots of record before any building permits can be issued, according to the material presented in the agenda item.

The board's approval followed the Glenview New Development Commission's unanimous recommendation on Sept. 28.

Dermody Properties Midwest Region Partner Neal Driscoll was in the Glenview board room to witness the approval of the subdivision. On July 19 the board of trustees approved annexation agreements and site plans at the Allstate campus, and provided initial support of a tax incentive to Dermody Properties' logistics development proposed for the space.

The plan is to construct up to 10 industrial buildings spanning 3.2 million square feet on 230 of the approximately 293 acres formerly held by either Allstate, Cook County or Prospect Heights. The land is both east and west of Sanders Road, extending from Willow Road south to the Glenview Place subdivision, and east to the I-294 Tri-State Tollway.

The Village of Glenview is hosting its annual Capital Improvements Program (CIP) open house from 6:30-8 p.m. Oct. 13 at Village Hall, 2500 E. Lake Ave.

Residents may attend and provide feedback about the condition of village infrastructure, and learn more about when improvements will be made in various Glenview locales.

The Village of Glenview board of trustees next meets at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 18. Tentatively scheduled is first discussion of the Willows Crossing Shopping Center, which drew recommendation by the Glenview New Development Commission on Sept. 28.

The Naval Air Station Glenview Museum, 2040 Lehigh Ave., is getting an original World War II Link aircraft control simulator.

Once restored, the trainer is intended to serve as a display piece as well as a working trainer for museum visitors, history buffs and those interested in aviation or STEM.

Equipment such as this Link flight trainer was used at Naval Air Station Glenview to train pilots before they flew in World War II. The rare piece, manufactured by Link Aviation, was the latest technology at the time of its use.

The trainer is currently housed in a hangar at the Waukegan National Airport. The plan is to complete the restoration over the next year and then place it into the Naval Air Station Glenview Museum, said Bill Marquardt, president of the Glenview Hanger One Foundation.

The Glenview Hangar One Foundation, which commemorates those who served at the Glenview base, seeks support for the project, as well as people interested in helping restore the trainer.

The foundation has established a Go Fund Me account for the project, at gofund.me//dd113029. Donations also may be made directly to the museum on Lehigh Avenue.

Through Nov. 1, the Village of Glenview is accepting nominations for its fifth Environmental Sustainability Awards.

Nominees may be any organization that serves the Glenview community, including schools, businesses, volunteer groups, houses of worship. Last year's honorees included Ten Ninety Brewing Company, the Princeton Village Homeowners Association, Friends of Downtown Glenview and Intrinsic Landscaping.

Nominees may be considered for one of three categories: Innovation, Leadership, and Education and Outreach.

Loads of laundry

The numbers are in from Our Lady of Perpetual Help's annual laundry drive, sponsored by Guild 35 of the OLPH Women's Club.

During the collection of laundry detergent throughout September, headed by co-chairs Katie Santucci and Whitney Chango, the drive netted nearly 19,000 loads of laundry detergent.

Donations by the OLPH and Glenview communities will help families through the OLPH parish center, Catholic Charities of Des Plaines, and four sharing parishes: Mother of the Americas, St. Sabina, St. James, and St. Josephine Bakhita.

Now seeking candidates

The Citizens for Glenview (C4G) party has been formed to serve Glenview residents and neighborhoods. Its nominating committee is inviting prospective nominees to form a slate of candidates for election to the Glenview village board, where three, 4-year seats will be voted on in the spring election on April 4, 2023.

Any registered voter residing within the corporate limits of Glenview for at least one year as of Election Day is eligible to run.

Those residents interested in the C4G slate will meet for interviews with its nominating committee. All candidates who would like to be considered for the slate, currently serving or not, must submit a resume and any comments to John Nicolau no later than Friday, Oct. 21.
