Northgate at Veridian Block Party features food, raffles, fun for all

On Saturday, Aug. 27, about 80 residents of the Northgate at Veridian neighborhood in Schaumburg gathered for their first Summer Block Party on Catalina Court.

Families brought food to share, tables and chairs, and music for the event, as well as bag games, a wading pool, and face painting for the kids. Local merchants donated food and prizes for a free raffle for residents.

Schaumburg Mayor Tom Dailly visited the event and socialized with residents. The Schaumburg Fire and Police Departments stopped by and distributed small gifts for the children.

Firefighters enthralled the crowd by demonstrating the power of their truck's fire hose, shooting water for a hundred feet, dousing kids to cool off on the 80-degree, sunny day.

The police department's K9 Unit also captured the crowd's attention with a live demonstration of the crime-fighting abilities of its German shepherd, Vox, and Officer Josh Ladin, using a "bite suit" on his arm.

In addition to ethnic dishes from all over the world, neighbors brought desserts to complement the cookies and cakes provided by nearby food vendors.

Northgate at Veridian is a newly constructed residential neighborhood that currently is comprised of about 106 townhouses built on a portion of the land formerly occupied by Motorola. It is bordered by Meachum and Algonquin roads and the new, 12-acre Village Park.
