Win up to $35,000 with Bloomingdale VFW's scholarship contest
Commander Cliff Hall of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Bloomingdale Post 7539 announces the kick-off of this year's Voice of Democracy Scholarship Competition.
The VFW Post is offering a cash scholarship to the "winner or winners" of the VFW Voice of Democracy Scholarship Competition.
Local high school students have the opportunity to compete for thousands of dollars in scholarships and a trip to Washington, D.C. To be eligible, students must reside in Bloomingdale, Roselle or Medinah and be of high school age.
The VFW Post winner advances to district level and then the district winner advances to the state competition. The first place national winner is awarded a $35,000 college scholarship. Not only have past post winners received generous cash prizes, their participation is a "great plus" on any college or academy admission form.
This year's topic is: "Why is the Veteran Important?"
To participate students must: write and record a three-to-five-minute essay on the current topic "Why is the Veteran Important?"
Record their essay in an audio format using a flash drive.
Send their recording, typed essay, and entry form to VFW Post 7539, c/o Bloomingdale Library, 101 Fairfield Way, Bloomingdale, IL 60108.
Entries must be received no later than midnight Monday, Oct. 31.
