Legion golf outing supports homeless veterans
MOUNT PROSPECT - The seventh annual Legion Fall Classic golf tournament will be held the morning of Thursday, Oct. 6, at the Mount Prospect Golf Course.
Mount Prospect American Legion Post 525 has hosted the two-man scramble tournament since 2016. Organizers say 100% of the proceeds from this event go to benefit homeless veterans. Sign-ups are still available.
Veterans Path to Hope of Crystal Lake is a nonprofit exclusively devoted to supporting homeless veterans and their families. They will again receive the proceeds of the outing.
Post 525 Commander Bill Starr said he and the Legion staff recognized a serious need to support homeless veterans right here in suburban Chicago, and started the Fall Classic to raise funds. Last year's golf outing resulted in the presentation of a check for $12,586.53 to Veterans Path to Hope.
Anyone interested in playing in the outing, sponsoring a hole or donating a prize for the day's raffle can contact Starr at billstarr14@gmail.com or call (847) 769-1891. The cost is $100 to golf, $100 to sponsor a hole and $50 to sponsor a cart.
The price of golf includes a hot dog, chips and drink at the turn, a raffle ticket and buffet dinner after golf. Play begins at 10 a.m.
