Waukegan's annual Dandelion Wine Arts & Music Festival pays tribute to author Ray Bradbury
Ray Bradbury's 22nd Annual Dandelion Wine Arts & Music Festival will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, in Waukegan's Bowen Park.
This festival pays tribute to Waukegan's favorite son, Ray Bradbury, who passed away on June 5, 2012.
The festival is presented by the Waukegan Park District Cultural Arts Division, with sponsorship support by the Waukegan Arts Council and the Waukegan Historical Society.
The festival's theme is "Ray Bradbury ... We Remember You!" To celebrate the author's life, the event features multiple outdoor and indoor staging areas for music and the arts.
Food and refreshments will be available throughout the day for a fee.
Scheduled events include an Artist's Lane, where numerous artists and crafters will be displaying their art and/or conducting demonstrations, instructions, and selling their works.
An artist from Waukegan's Dandelion Gallery will be creating art in the center circle outside of the Jack Benny Center for the Arts. There will also be a Young Artist's Lane, where local students of all ages will have their artwork from Arts Park displayed.
Gary Moore, a published children's writer, will read portions from his children's book, "What Daddy Do." Kids will also have the chance to plant sunflower seeds in a garden.
For international dance fans, Ntege Moses (aka Jerom Bixe) will perform Ugandan traditional, continental African forms, Afro, and contemporary dance in front of the Jack Benny Center for the Arts at 3 p.m.
The festival will feature a variety of music at different music stages throughout the day, co-headlined by Juiette Z. Payne at noon and Zion Ari at 2 p.m. at the Outdoor Pavilion Music Stage.
Juiette Z. Payne will also perform indoors at 2:05 p.m. along with "Jazzman" Jeff Justman at 3:25 p.m. in the Indoor Acoustic Music Stage in the Schornick Theatre.
There will be a variety of other musicians performing on both the Outdoor Pavilion Music Stage and the Indoor Acoustic Music Stage throughout the festival.
Bowen Park is at 1800 N. Sheridan Road, Waukegan, adjacent to the Waukegan Park District's Jack Benny Center for the Arts, the Jane Addams Center, Lilac Cottage, and the Morrison Picnic Pavilion.
