New Green Roselle group to host first highway cleanup

Green Roselle is inviting anyone with an interest in local environmental stewardship to its next meeting. It will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, at 40 S. Prospect, across from the village hall complex.

The new Roselle-based group will spend the first half of the meeting highlighting volunteer opportunities over the next two months. In the second half, members will be brainstorming ideas for one or two social events for Green Roselle members and friends.

The group recently adopted a 2.5-mile stretch of Irving Park Road. Its first Adopt-A-Highway Cleanup will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27. Volunteers should bring water, sunscreen and gloves. Green Roselle supplies high-visibility vests, garbage bags and a limited number of pickers. Arrive early for doughnuts, coffee and instruction. Sign up at greenroselle.org.
