Police: Man dies after stabbing on Chicago commuter train
CHICAGO (AP) - A man who died after being stabbed on a Chicago commuter train early Monday apparently threatened or tried to rob the person who wounded him, authorities said.
The stabbing occurred about 3 a.m. on a Chicago Transit Authority Red Line train on the city's South Side, police said.
Chief of Detectives Brendan Deenihan said video footage reviewed by investigators suggest the man was with a group who threatened or tried to rob someone else on the train. Video showed the man holding a gun before the individual targeted by the group used a knife to stab him, Deenihan told reporters during a press conference.
The man suffered wounds to his chest and later was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Deenihan said investigators haven't identified anyone else involved yet. No arrests have been made.
On Friday, four people were wounded in a stabbing on another Chicago Transit Authority train. Six robbery suspects followed a 42-year-old man onto a Red Line train at about 2 a.m., then demanded his belongings and attacked him with a knife and a broken glass bottle, police said last week.
The man pulled out his own knife and fought back but suffered stab wounds. Three of the suspects also suffered stab wounds, police said. The other three were arrested.
