Edman Chapel organ to be featured at Wheaton concert Saturday

The Wheaton Municipal Band is moving indoors for a concert at 8 p.m. Saturday in the air-conditioned Edman Chapel at Wheaton College. In past years, the band's annual indoor concert has been held at the end of the summer season.

Featured in the concert are Staff Sgt. Kristin Bowers, a clarinetist in "The President's Own" Marine Band in Washington, D.C., and Wheaton College professor Tony Payne.

Bowers, a 2002 Downers Grove North graduate, will perform "Concert Fantasy on Motifs of Giuseppe Verdi's Rigoletto" by Luigi Bassi and LeRoy Anderson's "Clarinet Candy."

The band also will perform Zdechlick's "Celebrations," Humperdinck's "Prayer and Dream Pantomime," and Hindemith's "March from Symphonic Metamorphosis."

The final work on the program allows a rare opportunity for the audience to hear the Edman Chapel organ with Payne playing the "Finale, Symphony No. 3 Organ Symphony" by Camille Saint-Saƫns. The organ is the largest in this type of instrument in the metropolitan area.
