Karen Kallmann honored with AAUW Naperville Angeline Gale Scholarship

The American Association of University Women Naperville Area recently named Karen Kallmann of Oswego, as the 2022 Angeline Gale Scholarship winner.

Kallmann will receive $5,000 to help complete her degree in social work. The scholarship, established in 1971 in memory of educator and AAUW Naperville founder Angeline Gale, encourages women to pursue higher education, even when their progress has been interrupted.

Karen Kallmann grew up in a loving "extended" family, sharing both joys and sorrows. Their traditions linked the past to the present and provided a pathway of support for the future. She drew upon these as she went through a brutal divorce and endured numerous surgeries which severely impacted her both financially and physically. Regardless, with the help and encouragement of others she has worked full time to support her three girls while also pursuing a college education. In 2023, at the age of 50, she will receive her bachelor's degree in social work from Aurora University. Karen intends to pursue her master's degree and hopes to assist people in setting and achieving their goals. She believes that it is never too late to start again
