Arlington VFW Post 981 Awards Scholarships

Arlington Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 981 is pleased to announce the awarding of the 2022 VFW Post 981 Wally Luettschwager Memorial Scholarship Grant to Greta Franke, Caitlyn Piecuch, and Lauren Schiele. At the award ceremony held in June at the Post monthly meeting Greta received $3,000 while Caitlyn and Lauren each received $1,500.

Greta is a resident of Tower Lakes and graduated in 2021 from Barrington High School. She currently attends Emory University where she is majoring in pre-medicine and music with a GPA of 4.0. Her father is a disabled Vietnam War Veteran.

Caitlyn lives in Schaumburg and just graduated from Conant High School, attaining a GPA of 4.0. She is planning to attend the University of Missouri to major in Radiography. She obtained a Certified Nursing Assistant certification through Harper College while in high school. Both her father and grandfather were in the armed services.

Lauren comes from Arlington Heights and attended Rolling Meadows High School prior to her 2022 graduation with a 4.6 GPA. She is expecting to major in Biology in college. Her grandfather served as an aircraft gunner during WWII.

Wally Luettschwager was a life-long resident of Arlington Heights, Illinois who served honorably in the US Army in combat during the Korean War. He came home and was an active member of Post 981 for over 60 years in many capacities including Commander. Wally played an integral part in the organizing and running of the Arlington Heights Memorial Day Parade which has been part of the community for over 100 years.
