Elgin Riverside Club names John Elbert as 2022 Man of the Year

Every year, the Elgin Riverside Club recognizes a member for his contributions to the betterment of the organization.

The Man of the Year is selected from nominations by membership, employees and Club friends forwarded to the Man of the Year committee for discussion, consideration and selection.

The Man of the Year committee is made up of all previously designated Man of the Year recipients.

This year, a record number of recommendations were received for multiple members. The committee voted and selected John A. Elbert as the 2022 Man of the Year.

Elbert has been a member of the Elgin Riverside Club since 2009. His list of accomplishments includes many years of service to the club with outside grounds projects and building maintenance. He volunteers his time to help club events run smoothly by filling whatever role is required - selling raffle tickets, backing the bar, assisting in the kitchen with food preparation and cleaning up after the event. His dedication to volunteering has been long noticed and is much appreciated.

The oldest son of Marv and Donna Elbert, two longtime Elgin Area School District U-46 teachers, he grew up in Elgin with his brothers William and James and graduated from Elgin High School in 1981. He is a Illinois licensed plumber and is a 28-year Wauconda resident. He is also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose #799 and Fraternal Order of Eagles #1047. He is a past two-term member of the board of his home owners association, volunteers for the Lake View Villa Association ice fishing tournament, and runs a water station for Wauconda's Bunny Hop and Turkey Trot fundraising events.

Elbert is a seven-year employee at Brabazon Pump, Compressor & Vacuum, installing industrial air equipment and piping for high integrity compressed air systems. In his recreational time, he is a fixture on Bangs Lake - in summer on his pontoon boat and in winter ice fishing.

The Elgin Riverside Club will host the Man of the Year Banquet on Saturday, June 18. The cocktail hour begins at 6 p.m., with dinner served at 7 p.m. with program and reception to follow. Meal options are prime rib, chicken or vegetarian meal. Cost is $25 per person.

All members and guests are welcome to congratulate and celebrate Elbert's selection as Elgin Riverside Club 2022 Man of the Year.
